Hybrid Election System (H.E.S.)
Combine the speed and accuracy of automation with the transparency and trust-building aspects of manual oversight.
Powered by Machine Vision and Distributed Mesh Transmission.
About H.E.S.
The Hybrid Election System (H.E.S.) is a groundbreaking software platform developed by Electoral Reform Advocates. It leverages standard, readily available hardware – a laptop, PC, or tablet, and a webcam – to orchestrate the entire election process. Uniquely affordable compared to traditional platforms, H.E.S. employs advanced Machine Vision and Distributed Mesh Transmission, ensuring unparalleled security and transparency.
Cost-Efficiency
Significantly reduces electoral expenses by utilizing off-the-shelf hardware, making modern election technology accessible to all.
Unmatched Security
Features a serverless-secured distributed network, ensuring results are immutable, tamper-proof, and impervious to hacking.
Transparency & Auditability
Combines the tangible security of paper ballots with real-time digital verification and public audit capabilities.
How H.E.S. works
H.E.S. seamlessly integrates paper ballots with cutting-edge digital technology, ensuring integrity from interaction to dissemination.
Voter Interaction & Private Verification
- The voter shades their choices on a physical paper ballot.
- This ballot is presented to a standard webcam connected to a laptop.
- On a private screen, visible only to the voter, the camera vision algorithm instantly interprets their shaded choices for immediate verification.
- Voters can correct a mistake/over-vote by shading the candidate number (void) and then make a new choice before the VVPAT is generated.
- Upon voter approval, the physical ballot is dropped into a sealed ballot box, remaining the primary legal evidence.
Official Counting & Public Audit
- After polls close, ballots are re-scanned using the same laptop and webcam setup.
- The software's interpretation is displayed prominently on a large public LCD screen for real-time observation by poll watchers and the public.
- Unreadable ballots are interpreted by human election officers and observers by consensus, ensuring human oversight.
- Poll watchers can photograph the public screen for documentation.
- Aggregated precinct results are printed and signed, becoming the official precinct return.
Digital Aggregation & Dissemination
- Secured Result Distribution: Official digital results and images of ballots and signed ER's are sync and circulated via a serverless Distributed Mesh Network. Each precinct laptop acts as a node, creating an immutable, resilient ledger.
- Real-time Public Website: An intuitive website portal provides real-time, aggregated results, from national to individual precinct levels.
- Interactive Transparency Map: The website features a map interface where clicking on any precinct reveals comprehensive details: precinct number, persons in charge, result and broadcast timestamp, GNSS location, device IP/MAC address, and other technical data, ensuring ultimate transparency.
